ODATA to begin construction of $46m Data Centre as part of 100MW LATAM expansion

Expansion comes five months after a cash injection from CyrusOne who bought a 10% equity stake in the Brazilian provider.

Brazil’s Data Centre operator ODATA has unveiled plans to break ground on its latest campus in Hortolândia, in the state of São Paulo, with capital expenditure for the project expected to hit $45.65m.

The hub is expected to create on a first phase 50 jobs, a number set to grow to 1300 new direct and indirect positions.

The new campus will amount to five modular buildings and 40MW of power once fully built making it one of the largest in Central and Latin America.

The first module is scheduled to begin operations in January 2020. A second Data Centre could be operational by mid 2021, according to Andre Busnardo, CSO and CMO at ODATA.

PAT (Posto de Atendimento ao Trabalhor/Workers Service Desk) has been tasked with finding the right workforce to help build and maintain the Data Centres once built.

ODATA started its operations in 2015 and, currently operates a 12MW Data Centre in São Paulo and is deploying its second Data Centre in Bogota, Colombia.

Its growth plan includes investments in the region to build and operate multiple interconnected hyperscale Data Centres.

ODATA is backed by Patria Investments, a global alternative asset management company which owns the majority of the Brazilian brand.

In 2018, the company received a $12m cash injection from CyrusOne in exchange for 10% equity interest in the business.

Gary Wojtaszek, president and CEO of CyrusOne, said at the time that Brazil and other LATAM markets have largely been served by a limited number of providers, leading to few options and high costs for customers.

“Through Patria, which holds a number of investments across the communications infrastructure space, customers in ODATA’s facilities will have access to both dark fiber and lit services via Vogel Telecom, another portfolio company. At the same time, we will work with ODATA, helping the company build a scalable platform that can deliver high quality facilities at the lowest cost,” Wojtaszek added.
