Seaborn Networks selects ODATA Data Centers to expand its Points of Presence in Brazil3 minutes reading
Premium colocation contract has been executed to support
the expansion of Seabras-1 within Brazil
ODATA, provider of the most modern data center infrastructure in Latin America, announced that Seaborn Networks (Seaborn), a leading developer-owner-operator of submarine fiber optic cable systems, has selected ODATA as a new Point of Presence (POP) for Seaborn’s local network in Brazil.
ODATA’s DC SP01 will act as a Point of Presence (POP) for Seaborn’s local network in São Paulo. ODATA will host the full suite of Seaborn’s services positioning itself as an interconnection point for the Seabras-1 submarine cable between New York (USA) and São Paulo (Brazil).
This enables Seaborn to be an On-Net Carrier at ODATA, and to offer a complete set of wavelength capacity services, MEF compatible Ethernet services and IP services. These highly scaled and reliable services provide direct connectivity between Brazil and the United States, with lower latency than any other current system.
By integrating ODATA’s Data Center infrastructure into Seabras-1, Seaborn provides customers an alternative access point to its high availability network, thereby providing the benefits of direct, low latency routes from North America to South America.
“With the addition of this new POP at ODATA, we continue our expansion plan in Latin America. This is an important milestone for us, as we are working together with ODATA to provide international connectivity for its customers,” said Michel Marcelino, Seaborn’s SVP & Head of Latin America.
“Our Data Center becomes a strategic interconnection point with other Seaborn POPs installed in different locations around the world,” explained Ricardo Alário, ODATA’s CEO. “We are ready to support our customers and future demands that need international transport capacity and low latency”.
About ODATA Data Centers
Built to house robust IT and Telecommunications infrastructures, supporting high-density racks, personalized design and high connectivity, ODATA ‘s Colocation Data Centers stand out among the most advanced in all of Latin America. Altogether there are 4 operating Data Centers, located in Barueri, Santana do Parnaíba, Hortolândia, in the interior of São Paulo and Bogotá, in Colombia and 2 more being constructed in Querétaro, México and Santiago, Chile.
ODATA Data Centers are highly efficient in energy consumption (ODATA has the lowest PUE in the LATAM market), and are managed by an industry leading operations team. All installations are managed by integrated systems and have several layers of automation. Thus, they provide the end customer with security and a total view of their IT environment.
There is also ample availability of office space for clients in the administrative building of DC SP01, including the possibility of implementation of private customer NOCs (Network Operations Centers), contingency environments, meeting rooms and parking spaces.
DC SP01 was the first Colocation Data Center in Brazil to earn the LEED Gold certificate, awarded by the US Green Building Council. In addition, it maintains the Uptime Institute’s Tier III design, design and construction certification.

Why do Latin Americans pay more for cloud computing?
Mauricio Ruiz published a post linking to the following article “ Why do Latin Americans pay more for cloud computing?“ and it got me thinking. The article raises some important points, but I think it misses other causes that are no less important. One of the main reasons for the cost […]3 minutes reading

Hyperscale Data Centers
Having spent a large part of my career in the semiconductor business, I clearly remember the 2005 era when computing power, or the ever increasing push for more performance translated into clock speed, or Ghz took a “right-hand turn” and the industry started looking more at performance per watt. Clearly, […]3 minutes reading
