ODATA, a data center infrastructure provider for Latin America, announces signing an agreement with Omega Energia, a leading company in renewable energy investments in the Americas, for the acquisition of a minority stake in the Assuruá IV wind farm (212 MW) located in Xique-Xique, Bahia. With this, ODATA becomes the first hyper-scale data center provider in Latin America to have 100% of its data centers’ energy consumption coming from a renewable source. This initiative is in line with the company’s mission to improve the region’s digital infrastructure while meeting the highest sustainability standards. The closing of the transaction is subject to certain customary conditions precedent, including, among others, approval by the Administrative Council for Economic Defense – CADE.

This initiative allows the company to stop emitting approximately 125,000 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere by 2035. “Our commitment to ESG is longstanding, and now we are promoting another major advance by signing this agreement for the use of renewable energy, through a partnership in a wind farm by Omega Energia,” says Ricardo Alário, cofounder and CEO of ODATA. “Considering our strong growth and high energy demand, it is important for us to partner with great players with specialized knowledge to offer sustainable solutions for our clients. We are happy to partner with Omega on this project.”

ODATA is present in four countries in Latin America (Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, and Chile) and its sites have approximately 460 MW of IT capacity. Data centers are large energy consumers, and with this initiative, the company ensures that 100% of its power consumption in Brazil comes from clean energy.

“We are excited about this partnership with ODATA. By finding partners who share the same purpose as Omega, the continuity of business relationships comes naturally. We always seek to develop customized, innovative and technological solutions to help build a society that is aligned with the sustainability principles” says Fabiana Polido, commercial director of Omega Energia. “Besides Omega’s track record in projects focused on clean energy and competitiveness, it is very inspiring to work on projects with teams that celebrate great achievements like this one”, adds Mariana Fulan, commercial manager of the company.

“A strategy focused on energy efficiency and renewable energy are key differentials in our industry and essential for our society. With increasing digitalization and climate change, it is critical to have zero-carbon energy sources, and wind power becomes one of the best options for us to achieve our ESG goals, contributing to the fight against climate change and the UN Sustainable Development Goals,” explains Carolina Maestri, Director for ESG at ODATA.
