ODATA, an Aligned Data Centers company and provider of data center services for Latin America, announces the expansion of its wind power supply from the Assuruá IV wind farm (212 MW), located in Xique-Xique, Bahia. This growth is driven by a new agreement with Serena Energia, a global leader in renewable energy supply, and represents a 135% increase in contracted volume.
ODATA set a new industry standard by being the first hyperscale data center in Latin America to achieve 100% renewable energy usage in Brazil. This initiative aligns with ODATA’s commitment to fueling its rapid expansion in Brazil with clean, renewable energy sourced from renewable power plants in which it has a stake.
The expansion of this partnership reinforces the trust and strong synergy between the companies. The ongoing success of its collaboration has paved the way for this new phase of the operation, which is expected to be completed upon meeting certain usual precedent conditions. This is another step for ODATA in reinforcing its mission to enhance digital infrastructure with the highest standards of sustainability.
According to Ricardo Alário, CEO of ODATA, this investment is specifically designed to reinforce ODATA’s commitment to ESG principles, as the company has been constructing and expanding its data center portfolio across Brazil.
“Our commitment to sustainability is a fundamental pillar of ODATA,” says Alário. “We were the first hyperscale data center provider in Brazil to have 100% of our energy consumption sourced from direct investment in renewable sources. We are pleased that this solution is being adopted by the industry, significantly contributing to the country’s transformation into a strategic and eco-friendly hub for the data center sector. This expansion of our partnership with Serena strengthens our ESG commitment and positions us competitively in the global market,” he adds.
The new agreement highlights Serena’s expertise in providing renewable energy solutions for data centers, considering the high energy demand driven by cloud computing and artificial intelligence.
“Our partnership with ODATA began in 2023, and we’re thrilled to expand our collaboration as they work towards their sustainability goals, “says Fabiana Pasquot Polido, Director of Structured Operations for the Americas at Serena. “This agreement not only strengthens our presence in the data center market but also demonstrates our ongoing commitment to providing clean and reliable energy solutions that meet the growing demands of the sector.”
“Our vision is for Brazil to become a premier destination for data centers, offering a sustainable and reliable alternative to meet the rapidly growing need for capacity. By incorporating a clean and self-sufficient energy source, ODATA not only reduces our carbon footprint, but also strengthens Brazil’s reputation as a global benchmark in sustainability,” emphasizes Alário.
